Supreme Court’s big decision, women will be able to participate in NDA exam

New Delhi : The Supreme Court directed women to appear in the examination for admission to the National Defense Academy (NDA). The exam is to be held on 5th September. The result/admission of the examination will be subject to the orders of the Supreme Court coming later. The Supreme Court criticized the Army’s stand on not being given proper opportunities to women. The court said that the court criticized the stand of the army for not giving proper opportunities to women. This order of SC is important because till now girls were not allowed to appear in NDA exam.

A division bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hrishikesh Roy passed the interim order in a writ petition filed by Kush Kalra, seeking permission to women candidates to appear in the NDA exam.

It has been said in the petition that women are not included in the NDA only on the basis of gender. This is an alleged violation of the fundamental rights to equality.

The petition sought a direction to the concerned authorities to allow eligible women candidates to appear in the ‘National Defense Academy’ and ‘Naval Academy Examination’ and undergo training in the NDA.
